It took me from November 2018 to last week to get this done, but it’s official: All 70+ pieces of inventory are up for grabs in my Etsy shop, TarotAndSage. I have definitely tried to stay productive during my time in quarantine.
My Etsy shop is the home to all of my magical creations and tarot readings.
I wanted to keep my Tarot business and my YouTube business separate. I explain that a bit more in the blog when I announced the Etsy shop back in 2018. You can go give that a read in case you were interested in why my shop isn’t called MyBasicJourney.
A few years ago, in 2017, I was selling DoTerra – an MLM company that sells high grade essential oils. I actually really liked it and and became pretty obsessed with the whole thing. I was going to weekly meetings and going to the local events. My favorite part, though, was making daily spreadsheets, drawing up my own business plans, researching data, and just really diving in deep into the business sides of DoTerra.
It was during this time that I realized that I wanted to have my own online business/brand.
I was pitching my oils to a coworker of mine at the bank I worked at. She told me, “I’m not really into that kind of thing. However, my daughter is a stay-at-home mother who gives tarot readings out of her home.”
At the time, I was pretty giddy and interested in what she knew about her daughter’s work. Many moons ago, that’s what I had wanted to do.
In my early 20’s, I used to visit my local coven who owned a small storefront. The building was small, and the majority of the space was actually used as a place to gather and have celebrations. We would also have drum circles, tarot readings, and psychic fairs. She had one walk-in room, maybe an 8×10 space, that she had handmade jewelry, crystals, tarot cards, and books.
I remember thinking that was what I wanted; I wanted a place like that of my own. However, I was/am in no way ready or financially prepared to own a building that has a mortgage. That dream faded and was replaced with just getting the heck out of the corn fields. So I did get out of those corn fields, and eventually the idea of having my own business came to me again.
As an self-proclaimed born entrepreneur, ideas of a new businesses came to me all the time, my entire life.
Whether that was wanting to own my own storefront of different kinds, run my own salon or spa, open a vegan restaurant, sell lularoe, or settle for having an essential oil business.Even as a kid, I wanted to do it all. I tried every sport, and so many different instruments, and afterschool clubs. I wanted to dip my toe in everything.
MyBasicJourney was actually started because of my time with DoTerra. It made me want to start my own business about personal development and getting back to the basics: Traveling light, living minimally and eating a whole foods, plant-based diet.
My point is that I have always wanted to be my own boss and own my own business.
A few months after my encounter with the woman and the tarot reading daughter, a friend asked me for advice on something. At the time it was almost second nature, and I picked up the cards and gave her a reading through text with images and descriptions.
It was like a light bulb went off: I should start a business where I could give online tarot readings.
I started doing more research into what that would actually look like and in November of 2018 I created TarotAndSage. The shop tab on this website will actually bring you to my Etsy shop. I also have an Instagram page and Pinterest (Still very new and not very updated) associated with TarotAndSage.
Not only do I offer tarot readings, but this Etsy shop is a place where I can sell all of my jewelry, prints, and merch (coming soon after I figure out a good printing company).
In recent years, I started making crystal pendants out of polymer clay. I just kept making them until there was over 70. Even after giving some away to friends and family I have 70 left. I also have other items that I might eventually get up there like my wire wrapped rings and hemp bracelets. For now, my main focus/medium is going to be these beautiful clay pendants made with high quality healing crystals.
Side Note – I was not prepared for how time consuming it would be to put the jewelry pieces up in the shop. Having to stage and photograph every piece, edit every photograph, upload every piece individually each with over 30 questions to answer, and having to write a description for each one. Phew. Just in case you were thinking about starting your own shop, add your inventory gradually and add them right when you’re done creating the piece.
My Etsy shop is ready, though. TarotAndSage is fully stocked and open for business.
Thank you so much for being here. If you’re interested in getting an online tarot reading, contact me for a first-time client discount.
