You may have noticed that I have an advertisement on my website now. I have been trying to build an online income from some time. This blog has been active for over a year and I just now (01-2020) found out that I could easily monetize this website using Google Adsense. Obviously, without a lot of traffic, I’m not going to be getting rich from the ads on my website, but what are some other ways to build an online income?
One of the main tips I’ve gotten when trying to build an online business is to create multiple streams of income and to “stack” your online income sources.
I have compiled a list of 8 Online Income options that I plan to utilize now and in the future. I hope this list helps you come up with your own ideas and plans in you are trying to build an online income. If you have other ideas for online income, please comment below! I’d love to hear of any ideas I might have missed.
1. Blog/Website
The first option is to start a blog. You could go the easy route and use web builders like WIx that are very user friendly and allow you to build a website without any knowledge of web design. Also, you could either pay someone to build a WordPress website or code your own. I decided to watch hours and hours or YouTube videos and build my own from scratch, and let me tell you it was very tedious and frustrating because I had no idea what I was doing. After you have a website built, you can easily monetize your website using Google Adsense which i mentioned above. This is probably the easiest way to start collecting an online income. Keep in mind this is not going to accumulate a lot of wealth (especially not in the beginning.)
2. YouTube
Starting a YouTube Channel is not the easiest or fastest way to build an online income – Even after a good amount of success, YouTube isn’t going to be a significant amount of money. Millions of views will have a good amount of profit, but not every video you make is going to be a viral video. Don’t plan on this being a steady source of money, and plan on being consistent for a while before you see a livable amount of money. They say it takes an average of three years to build an income with YouTube. (Also, YouTube also uses Google Adsense to monetize, so if you already have an account to monetize your website, it will be extremely easy to add your YouTube channel to an existing Adsense account.)
3. Etsy
If you are a crafter or artist of any kind, Etsy will be your best friend. Etsy is an easy way to get your products out there with millions of active buyers. They do take a small percentage per sale, and it costs money to have your items up for sale, but it saves you the trouble of having to create your own website to sell your items on. (I just added 20 new pendants to the Rainbow Collection, please go check them out in my Etsy Shop.) You can also easily embed your etsy items to your own website like I did here.
4. Photography/Videography
This option can be versatile and apply to any profitable hobby. I have had photography gigs in the past where I photographed items for a shop, but you could also do wedding photos/videos, portraits, artsy images sold on Etsy or somewhere like printful.com, etc. This goes for any sort of commission based skill (logo design, creating flyers, business cards, T-shirts/merch, etc.) You can also (again) use Etsy to promote and sell your art.
5. Web Design
If you have the skill base to build a website, there is great money to be made. Getting started can be the hardest part without having a portfolio made. However, there are tons of business that are in need of a website. You can use things like Skillshare to really learn the craft and immediately put those skills to use.
6. Amazon Associates
Amazon has an awesome program called Amazon Associates that allows anyone with a platform to use amazon links that (if people click on them and use them) give you a kickback of any order placed. This is a really great add-on to any online business. For example, the laptop I use is an HP, and if I can easily find this laptop on amazon, create a link and place it on mywebsite to promote that product. Even if someone clicks on your link, but doesn’t purchase that specific item, any item they do buy off of amazon in a certain time period will also give the “Amazon Associate” a kickback. It’s actually super cool and super easy to utilize. Example:
7. Brand Ambassador Deals/Sponsorships
Once you have a following/subscriber base, you can find different companies to work with that will pay you to promote their items. It is one of the most common ways that online business make extra income. I have not yet had any brand deals, but hope to in the future. Just keep in mind that your followers don’t want to be sold something every time they come to you website/channel/page. Keep the brands you work with personal and don’t promote anything you don’t actually support and back 100%.
8. Patreon
If you haven’t heard of Patreon, this is a website that allows you to build an online paid subscription. It is a very popular platform for YouTubers to use to allow their subscribers to get extra content and behind the scenes look into their lives. It allows creators to build a closer relationship to their followers and allows people to help support the people they are watching on a regular basis.
There are so many other options out there to make money online, but these are just the ones that I personally plan to use and utilize to build a constant stream of online income. Hopefully this inspires anyone that might be trying to build an online income knowing that there are so many ways to do so.
