500 Million Animals Dead in Australian Fires – A Vegan Rant

If you haven't heard the news yet, Australia is on fire. The Australian fires have displaced many and have destroyed everything people have including their homes and everything in them. It has gotten so bad that people have had to evacuate into the ocean to escape the burning fires. People and animals are being burned to death and there's not a lot we can do to stop it. Or is there? A map from researchers in Western Australia shows hundreds of wildfire hotspots across the nation as of Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020. Landgate's MyFireWatch (Image from https://time.com/5753584/bushfires-australia-catastrophic-fire-alert/ ) So far, the count of animals killed in the Australian fires is around 500 million. This number is absolutely catastrophic and depressing to say the least. However, as I read the many posts about people's sadness and anger to the lives lost, part of me is very frustrated. While it is sad that these Australian fires are taking the lives of so many, the amount of animals killed is only a small…

How and Why To Go Vegan: Fresh Inspiration

A couple months ago I hit my three year mark of being vegan. I recently watched a Ted Talk featuring Earthling Ed and was inspired all over again. It reminded me of why I was so vigilant in spreading the vegan message. Before making the conscious decision to switch to a vegan lifestyle, I was a vegetarian for eight years. I was still eating eggs and way too much dairy at that point. I went vegetarian for the animals after watching Peta videos about the realities of factory farms. For the past 11 years, I have heard every excuse from people who think they wouldn't be able to "give up meat" or "give up cheese." I was once one of those people so I understand where people are coming from when they say this. I promise you though, once you actually make the decision to better your life, the life of the planet and consciously save on average 100 animals per year just by leaving them off your plate, you…

5 Documentaries That Will Make You Go Vegan

Since watching documentaries is what made me decide to go vegan, I have compiled a list of five documentaries that will make you go vegan as well. I have watched so many different documentaries on health, nutrition, veganism, weight loss, animal cruelty, environmental issues and more. Truly, I believe that you would consciously decide to leave animals off of your plate if you watch this list of five films (including a sixth as a bonus documentary). I suggest you watch them in this order as well. Earthlings This film is hard to watch, I’m not going to lie. If you honestly refuse to watch it because of the horrible things you see, that should be your first sign that you don’t agree with the animal agricultural business. Every time you buy a burger, or chicken nuggets, or that turkey sub, you are contributing to the cruelty behind the meat. It may not be taking the knife to their throat, but you’re paying them to do so. This documentary will really…

Why I Actually Hate The Holidays..

The older I get, the more I hate the holidays; Especially Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a holiday that essentially celebrates genocide, and we do this by killing 300,000,000 turkeys a year. That’s right... Three hundred million! Then, before the night is over after we get done saying how grateful we are, we go and spend a shit-ton of money on gifts for the people we’re grateful for. Some of us even put ourselves into debt because of this. It’s a huge consumerism trap, and I’m finally breaking free. Some people may think I’m just crazy, but hear me out. Without giving a huge history lecture, basically, a group of white refugees came to a new country fleeing their corrupt government. The natives greeted them with a feast and blessings, welcoming them with open arms. Then the white men went on to almost wipe out their entire race, raping their women and stealing their land. Now, we celebrate these events by buying a turkey. Here’s a little history video about that. After…

Food Is Medicine – A Color Coded Guide

Food is the natural medicine provided by Mother Earth. Before I went vegan, I ate for the simple pleasure of satisfying my taste buds. Tons of fried foods, cheeses, pizza, burgers, pasta, bread, all of the good stuff. I went vegetarian when I was 19 because I saw a PETA video about the realities of slaughterhouses and factory farming. I never looked back after that day and now I am celebrating a decade meat-free. Even then, becoming a vegetarian wasn’t for health reasons. In March of 2016, I came across Earthlings on Netflix as a recommended documentary. This was when I was freshly sober, just over two months in, and I was really into health-related documentaries at the time. I watched Earthlings once, and my life has been changed forever. The last two and a half years have just been completely engulfing myself in the vegan lifestyle and learning more and more. There were so many things being said about the vegan diet that didn’t make sense to me. People…
